Our name comes from the word anathema: something rejected, set apart, or misunderstood. We chose it intentionally. In Asian diasporic culture, creativity and individual expression often lives in the margins, outside the clearly defined boundaries of expectations and standards. It only exists in the space we allow it to occupy, and Anathemae exists for that space.

This brand is our way of exploring modern Asian identity through jewelry that is current, wearable, and real. Not overly polished, not costume, and definitely not a cheap and lazy replica of the classic pieces your grandmother wears. Just pieces that balance edge and refined tradition.

Inspired by contemporary Asian aesthetics, urban culture, and cultural motifs that meant something to people who looked like us five thousand years ago, we create jewelry meant to be worn every day. Anathemae is a woman-owned brand based in Los Angeles, specializing in fine jewelry materials because we don’t believe art should be disposable. We’re creating modern heirlooms our own way.
